Marienne Yang

Marienne Yang (b.1983 in Singapore) studied at the School of Fine Arts of The University of Tasmania, Australia, graduating with a B.FA and a Dean’s Roll of Excellence in 2004. In 2009, she graduated with a Masters in Contemporary Practice from the University of Huddersfield, and in 2011 completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education with the National Institute of Education. She currently lectures at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Yang’s works often depict near-pain situations – situations that are dealt with very dispassionately and distanced, focusing on the struggles one has within them. Over the years, this process has led her from paintings, installations, photography, relief printing and recently embroidery. The therapeutic process of creating a work fills her with a sense of well-being – something neither medication nor voodoo can do.
