Cabuynan Elementary School
Tanauan, Leyte
Cabuynan Elementary School in Tanauan, Leyte became the site of a mobile art exhibition and workshops involving students, parents, and teachers. Five collaborators visited the school. Aside from co-curators Daisuke Takeya and Laya Boquiren, three artists gave workshops in relation to their art work, as a form of storytelling and trauma release. The workshops then served as multiplied iterations of their work and life as shared to others. Aze Ong, who specializes in crochet art, used the process to exchange stories with parents and children. Jason Domling gave workshops on rattan weaving. Each part of the process, from the preparation of materials to the weaving activity itself served as a platform for weaving dreams and aspirations for one’s self and community. Paul Albert Quiano gave workshops on clay for young people. As an extension of his story-book backpack, school children created stories out of clay.
